Keep Your Baby’s Head Warm

Sunday, December 27, 2009

Keeping your baby’s head warm is important during cold weather.  We loose a lot of heat through our heads, so by keeping our heads warm, we also help keep our whole body warm.  This is also true with babies.

Baby topee, cap, hat, etc.. are all cute and desinged to keep your baby’s warm.  You might want to pull the side over your baby’s ears to keep them cozy warm also.  Organic topees are made from cotton or wool will not only keep your baby warm, but will also have no harmful chemicals added.

Winter Time

Sunday, December 13, 2009

Winter time is here.  You will want to keep your baby warm and cozy.  You could use a baby blanket, but there are also baby baggies.  Your can get baggies with long sleeves, or without sleeves and use a baby tee to help keep your baby warm without getting tangled up.  Babies like to kick at night and can sometimes get entangled with a blanket.

The baggie is usually designed to help with changing the baby’s diaper.  It can have a zipper or tie enclosure at the bottom so you can get access to the diaper.  As with any baby clothing, I recommend organic.  Not only will your baby be warm and cozy, but he will look adorable in his sleeping bag.

Topees

Tuesday, December 01, 2009

Topees are cute and practical. An organic knit topee will keep your newborn’s head warm and protected from drafts and weather. They are usually used just for newborns and come in sizes from 0 to 6 months, although some stores offer larger sized pullovers they call topees.

A topee according to the dictionary refers to a pith helmet with a brim to protect the eyes from the sun.  A toupee is a men’s hairpiece.  When we refer to a topee, we mean a baby’s pullover cap to keep the head warm. The really cute ones come to a peak so that you can tie a little knot at the top. Organic topees make great gifts, too.

What Chemicals Lurk in Infant Clothing

Friday, November 20, 2009

Infant clothing, what chemicals may be lurking in infants clothing? Typically non-organic infant clothing may contain traces of formaldehyde, caustic soda, sulfuric acid, urea resins, sulfonamides, halogens, and bromine. These chemicals may cause reactions such as hives and dermatitis. Some chemicals have been linked to sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).

Parents may want to consider Organic Infant Clothing to avoid these risks. Organic clothing does not contain any harmful chemicals. Your infant can be snuggled in his soft cozy clothing and while being assured he is safe from these chemicals. You can find both organic cotton and organic wool.

Baby Feet

Monday, October 26, 2009

Booties are great for a newborn baby to keep little feet warm. A bootie with a nice cuff helps to keep it on when the infant kicks. Booties are made for infants up to 6 months. Like organic baby clothing, organic cotton is the best for booties because little feet are sensitive to chemicals used to process most fabrics.

Baby’s feet get hot and tend to sweat a lot because the baby is learning to walk and balance. Babies love to walk around on their tiptoes. Your baby may appear to be flatfooted, but this is normal until the age of 3 or 4 years. Bare feet are best for your baby unless your Doctor indicates differently.

A little baby’s shoes should have a flat sole and be made of flexible material. Check the shoes often for baby’s growth.  Babies grow rapidly during those first years and shoes quickly become too small.

My young son had just learned to crawl and he went at it with a vengeance. I noticed blisters on the top of his insteps. Although I usually did not put shoes on little babies, I decided it would be best for him to have the protection.

Infant Clothing

Thursday, October 15, 2009

Infant clothing usually refers to size 0-6 months.  However, some items may be available only in 0-3 months. Many companies sell baby baggies in infant sizes.

To keep your baby warm without heavy covering, a sleeping sac, sometimes called a sleeping blanket, sleeping bag or baby baggie, allows the baby to kick his legs and wave his arms.  Put the baby in a tee shirt, either long or short sleeve, if the baggie is sleeveless. He’ll stay cozy, warm and fully covered all night.

Get an extra benefit with Organic cotton because organic cotton baby clothes are very soft and contain no chemicals that may harm an infant. They are generally available in organic cotton terry or knit, with or without sleeves.  They may have a zipper down the front or close with snaps. Some baggies have a tie closing at the bottom.  All allow easy access for diaper changing.

Infant Clothing

Thursday, October 08, 2009

An infant kimono makes diaper changing easy for a newborn up to 6 months of age.  The kimono opens in the front with convenient snaps.  Long sleeves keep your new baby cozy and warm. Cotton knit feels velvety soft against the newborn’s skin.

Organic cotton does not contain pesticides, herbicides, or chemicals usually used in processing the cotton for use in clothing. Only the softest, most comfortable cotton lies next to your newborn’s skin.

Infant clothing made of organic cotton is convenient for you to use. Your newborn will feel good about wearing healthful organic cotton clothing.

PIP Organic Baby Clothing

Friday, October 02, 2009

PIP is a brand name of organic baby clothing.  The company has gone out of business but there are still some suppliers available.  The PIP products are organically certified and made through the fair trade act.  They are soft and cozy and very cute.  PIP made baby bodysuits in short or long sleeve along with other baby clothes.  The bodysuites came in packs of 3 or 7.  So even though the pack is a little more than buying just one, it makes each item a bargain.

I recomend that you make contact with anyone advertising PIP products to make sure they still have stock.  You should also be able to get the PIP products at a sale price.  So you get the quality of organics without having to pay the normal price.

Tee Shirts for Infants

Sunday, September 27, 2009

We all wear tee shirts.  They are comfortable, cool in summer and help keep you warm in winter. Colder weather is coming. If you have a newborn baby, an infant tee shirt with long sleeves is just the thing at this time of year to help keep her warm.

A soft, silky tee made of 100% cotton is stretchy and your baby can wear one for months.  When the baby is very small, you can pull a long sleeve down to cover her hands.

When it’s cold, I sleep in a tee.  Organic cotton contains no chemicals, so I know I’m not breathing in any bad stuff while I’m sleeping.  Your baby doesn’t need the chemicals used to process most cotton fabrics, so you might want to try organic infant clothing.  They come in a variety of colors.

Why Tagua Nut Buttons?

Tuesday, September 22, 2009

Tagua nuts are the fruit of the ivory-nut palm ( Phytelephas macrocarpa ), which flourishes in tropical America from Paraguay to Panama. Tagua is known in the trade as vegetable ivory. The ivory nuts, white or cream in color are very hard and make for a good button. In the past, great quantities of tagua nuts were exported to the United States and Europe for the manufacture of buttons and other small items. The use of tagua was largely supplanted by less expensive synthetic materials.

Organic infant clothing usually use tagua nut buttons, because they are natural and not made from synthetics.
